Oh, what emotion this meme evoked in me! I remember well cuddles in the middle of the night, scaring away the monsters and comforting my children when they had bad dreams. I remember wiping chocolate faces and the wild little foot that would end up on the side of my head on many occasions. I carried my children every time they needed comfort or were tired. Sometimes my arms felt like they were going to fall off. Even though being a Dad is often difficult, I never wanted any of my children to feel like they were a burden. I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything in the world!
What a privilege it is to be a father! To know that God entrusted me to care for fellow souls on their journey through life; to have a hand in shaping their character and helping them grow into remarkable adults. What an honor!
My daughter moved into her first apartment this year. My boys are both in High School. My youngest moved back in with his Mom in Florida. As I’ve blogged before, my role as care-giver is coming to a close. Pretty soon all three of my children will be out on their own.
I still firmly believe that there is no greater gift than being a father! If someday fame finds me, no salutation, no glory, no job or vocation will ever compare to the sacred title of Daddy!
